Connecting your own cable modem to Xfinity Comcast tutorial. Install your own modem router, I'm installing a Netgear C7000v2, the procedure will be the same for any gateway or modem unless you have phone service.

The Netgear C7000v2 is also called Nighthawk AC1900 Cable Modem Router. You may want to do a speed test before removing the Xfinity gateway. After your install and activate your own modem or modem router combo, run another speed test to make sure it is working properly. You can find a list of modems and routers that are compatible with your Xfinity Comcast account.

Take note of the default logins and passwords on the new modem router, then unplug the xfinity gateway and disconnect the coaxial cable. Next connect the coaxial cable to your own modem router and power up. Connect to the WiFi for the new modem router and wait for the Xfinity Comcast page to pop up on your web browser.
